Still Waiting

There is a certain anxiety that comes with waiting. The impending excitement. For me this is the delivery of my new daughter. It's like the grown up version of the night before Christmas. At least with Christmas, you know when you wake up, there will be presents there. My Christmas will come unannounced. I am excited to see what my new daughter will look like, act, yawn, and what color of her eyes will be. I am excited to see what kind of personality she will have. Until Tuesday comes with no delivery of the baby, I know this child inherited her mother's trait of being late.

December 31, 2008 my wife walked down the stairs and said, with a look of terror and happiness, "I'm pregnant." In my head I had dreamed of screaming, crying, and calling everyone I knew to tell them. Instead, it was quiet. I just shook my head. It just seems logical and right. That night we went to dinner with our family. The announcement was filled with excitement.

Now, nearly 9 months later, here I sit. Coffee to my right, feet up, and writing a blog. Waiting. The tings and twinges that my wife describes are getting more and more pronounced, and here we are. Still waiting.

Waiting for her water to break so we can pack in the car and get this baby born. Waiting for the doctor to tell her that, well you're dilated, time to go to the hospital and get this over with. Waiting to crest the longest ascent to the top of the roller coaster that is being a parent [again]. Just waiting.

It's awful. Every minute of my day is just filled with anticipation. Anticipating bringing home a new life. Anticipating molding a new woman into the world. Anticipating being a parent with my wife. [Jenn does great with Audrey, but there is just something different seeing a mother react to a child they gave birth to.] Anticipating how Audrey will react to a new child. Anticipating how my dog will react to the new child.

So here I am. Still waiting.

To sum (pun intended) degree the wait has to be worse for dad since they don't feel all the twinges etc. But it is nice to see you excited.

Put the song you posted up against your wifes tummy that ought to get the baby moving along.

Again good luck. xx

Oh don't get your Mangina all in a bunch..she'll be here soon enough. I told you go get her some Pennyroyal and sneak into her spaghetti sauce or Pizza. I bet this year your wife asks for a Nintendo Wii or a Spa Vacation instead for Christmas! :-)

I have never been a dad myself and so I can't identify with your feelings. But yes, I sure can imagine it. I, for one, wouldn't be sitting and writing a blog in your position. I've my own fancies of this. But yes, this is a truly great feeling. Becoming a parent is one of the best experiences you'd have in a life time. Anyways, all the best and convey my regards and concern to your wife. I'd sure keep a track of your blog, for, I too have become infected with your excitement. I'd like to know what coloured hair your baby'd have, what lovely eyes, so on and so forth. Keep posting.

Great post! Reminds me of the anticipation I had with my 2 girls. The first was late (a week I think) and has been late ever since! The second was on time or maybe early... ditto for her life.
Both were born in snowstorms... does it look like snow where you are??

Well Hon, you're waiting now..... However, you'll want thing to slow down after she is born. You can't have it both ways. Time goes by so fast. You'll be writting "OH NO!!!!!!!! Where did the time go?" I'm losing Audrey to another MAN!It's wedding bells. LOL

This may be a boring comment, but I just had to let you know how much I love this post. I guess it's bc we're at that age where we are considering getting pregnant too, so this sort of hits a nerve.

I'm excited for you and your wife!

Tasty Irony! My first is coming in 4 weeks, 4 days, and I'm just starting to get the Jangles! (Jittery) Thanks for the peek of what I'm in for!

I know how annoying, frustrating and down right maddening the waiting can be, and I'm the one feeling those tings (two munchkins of my own). I never thought about how the daddy feels, but your post makes me want to give my hubby a nice big hug. I hope that baby comes soon, for everyone's sanity, LOL.
