This summer has been packed full of great eats! I think my grill is the best purchase I could have EVER made since I bought my wife's engagement ring. I have been outside griling up a storm this whole summer. I used up my first tank of gas in, what felt like, 30 seconds, but my gas grill gets better gas mileage than a cash for clunker trade-in.
A few nights ago, I was watching a Man vs. Food episode where Adam went to MN. If you aren't familiar with a Juicy/Jucy Lucy, you aren't the only one. I had no idea what they were either. So before you continue, go read about them.
I have never been to MN, but I already don't like the Matt's Bar version. Their burger involves a type of cheese that I absolutely hate and I hope has it's own suite in Hell. American Cheese. I know I know, I should be a patriotic guy, but I can't eat it. There is something about peeling off the plastic wrapper that I just can't stomach. When I worked at McDonald's in high school is when I decided that I will never eat American cheese if I can help it. Bring on the cheddar! So with that being said, I will use the 5-8 Club version as my template. They use American, but they also use blue cheese, and god knows what else! Exciting ingredients equal an exciting meal!
So last night, I decided to try my hand at creating a meal that involves my favorite ingredients. A hunk of cheese, and hamburger.
Talk about a wonderful surprise. I think food that has a creamy and delicious center are awesome. [see also: Twinkie, cheddar wurst, boston creme doughnuts, Hostess Cupcakes]
Audrey really liked them, she almost finished one. [for those who didn't put that together yet, Audrey is my 7 year old daughter]
Wifey really liked them too. I mean just look at them. This is my version of culinary porn. This was my money shot!
That photo was taken with my Blackberry. Yeah, I know, it looks good. It was delish. My friend Julie posted photos of her awesome grilled cheese, but I say that, my burger is better than your grilled cheese. You decide!

I saw that episode. We liked that concept of cheese between two patties, and will do that next time I fire up the grill (probably this weekend).
That sounds great. I will have to get Josh to make them one day. I will have to agree with you. I find nothing more disgusting then having to scrap the nasty american cheese off of what was supposed to be a hamburger. ughh. I am shuttering just thinking about it! I thought I hated cheese for years, then I found out it was just because I was used to the american crap. lol Thank god for cheddar, or maybe feta, or.... mmmm. :-P~
Yummm! Man - I'd eat cheese grated over cornflakes ... culinary porn - I LOVE IT!
I particularly love the fact that you appear to be eating that burger upside down ... my grandfather ate everything upside down because his taste bud (in his mind) were on his tongue.
Thanks for the smile.
I like Man VS Food, and I also like your burger.
A couple of weekends ago, my brother and I made a burger as well...not as worthy as Adam's usual dishes, though xD

At the risk of sounding like Homer Simpson, mmmmmmm burrrgerrr.
Great blog!
All I have to hear is "Velveeta."
It's like fingernails on the chalkboard. The only thing worse is when hear the word cheese appended to it.
That makes American cheese sound pretty good, but I agree cheddar's better.
Once you're used to it, Jarlsberg is pretty damn tasty melted on burgers too.
That definitely looks like a good burger. And the shot of the cheese oozing out.......definitely the money shot.
I don't know who invented Juicy burgers but my family has been making them for over 50 years but we call them Moonburgers..don't know why.
We use Velveta cheese with other ingredients.. and they are yummy. Cheddar works as does Blue cheese but there is something about the melting capabilities of velveta that give it there yummmm
L x
OK you're photo is definitely better then mine is but, My Grilled Cheese Can Kick Your Burgers Ass Any Day!
I don't think American Cheese was made in America, I am pretty sure if you check the label is says made in China! Besides Velveeta and American cheese are processed, not so good for your body.....and there is no nutritional value, so for all your burger fanatics.....you just made a burger nutritious adding cheddar, or feta or blue cheese!
Man, you are on the culinary frontier! Keep it up!
it seems delicious for a burger and I would like to find a place where to eat some of those, but remenber to come to portugal where you can find real food!
Looks absolutely Delish! And you are responsible!
YUM!
thanx for letting me know my comments weren't working i got it fixed. I would have never thought to check that.

That stuff called american cheese simply isn't cheese, and should not even be classified with food items.
My family's version of stuffed hamburgers involved chopped onions and olives with cheddar - mmmmm!
The Juicy Lucy is a Twin Cities staple. Many of the burger joints in the area have adopted their own variations. One word of caution... Let it cool a bit before you start chowing down. All the grease from the cheese will deep fry your tongue if you aren't careful.
If you like trying different burgers, one of my favorites comes from a bar in the town where I went to college. The t-bocks peanut butter burger is my absolute favorite.
Take a spoonfull of your favorite PB and put it on top of the cooked burger and then place your cheese on top of that and let the cheese melt over the PB to seal it in. I prefer mine with Ketchup and pickles.
Oh man, anything that comes packaged in single slices is usually not very nutritious and sure it might melt better but thats because they designed it that way. Ugh.
I really want one of these cheese stuffed burgers now, or perhaps olives, onions and chedder as sciencegirl says. Why stop at cheese? Ummm....but PB...weird.
that's a legit moneyshot
